木霊
Kodama
木霊 — spirit of the trees
The Cottage
In Japanese folklore, a forest with kodama feels different from other forests. Older. Listening. Alive in a way that is hard to explain and easy to feel.
We built this cottage for ourselves. As the roof curved and the old pond-side trees settled into the design, something happened without us trying. We kept it for ourselves.
For a while.
A lotus pond and garden a few steps away. Frogs at dusk. Fireflies after dark. A heron at dawn who doesn't ask permission. The interiors are our most honest — nothing inside competes with what lies outside.
Kodama is for two people willing to let things unfold.
